Contemporary / Lyrical

Contemporary and lyrical are two styles which often get confused. Lyrical fuses ballet and jazz but is more technique based choreographed form of dance. Although still fluid in movement, the dancer tells a story based on the lyrics to the song choice. Younger students will be performing lyrical in competition, whereas older students will be able to perform contemporary pieces.

Contemporary is based on modern, jazz and ballet but with much more fluidity of movement than in those genres. The dancer is able to interpret a story in the way they feel.
